What we love to do is brand our client's projects with unique audio themes. We believe that if your channel-hopping you should be able to identify a programme solely by the music created for it. We achieve this in a variety of ways but usually it involves making specific choices about instruments and compositional styling. For Meerkat Manor, pitched to us as an 'animal soap', we crossed 'Desperate Housewives' with African percussion and lots of quirky time signatures to reflect the character of its stars. In Lemur Streets 'retro 70's funk' was pitched against 'world music’ to differentiate between the street fighting 'tornado' gang & the 'graveyard’ gang. Hana’s Helpline went out of its way to avoid sounding like a typical pre-school programme, by using simple orchestral melodies and harmonies.
Once we form a concept, a musical colour palette if you like, we stick to it through thick and thin. This affords us endless creative possibilities within a cohesive framework.
